Research Center

John C. Lincoln Hospital hosted an open house Saturday May 16 of their new Breast Health&Research Center on 1-17 and 101 freeway. The new facility features new technology and equipment specific for mammography and bone density screening. The new center which is decorated in warm pinks and browns was designed to feel like a spa. Say goodbye to that sterile or clinical feeling, this hospital features chandaliers, private screening rooms which are carpeted and decorated and plush robes in place of paper robes. The open house welcomed the public and community to experience a new mindset in breast health. From the digital mammograms to future care and wellness provided by personal cancer coordinator's, this hospital will serve the complete needs from routine mammograms to breast cancer patients from diagnosis, treatment and onto remission.

Mercury Workout

The Phoenix Mercury provided business women the oportunity to work out Mercury style with head coach Corey Gaines. The evening included lessons on nutrition, fitness and exercises you can do quickly and in the comfort of your own home. Mercury President Jay Perry and General Manager Ann Meyers Drysdale also joined in and were sweating with the group. Phoenix Woman magazine supports the Mercury and helped sponsor the event.

Saverio's Mother's Day

Saverio's Custom Clothiers teamed up with Montelucia's Joya Spa to put on a day for women which included spa packages and custom fitting opportunities. The spa was jammed packed with jewelry vendors, clothing, shoes and other accesories to purchase. Coffin and Trout Jewelers also had a special exhibit showcasing custom cufflinks and other fine pieces.

Viva Las Vegas

WHAT HAPPENS AT VIVA LAS VEGAS...BENEFITS FLORENCE CRITTENTON!Hosted by the Valley of the Sun Active 20-30 Club, Viva Las Vegas offered a night of food from top Valley restaurants, drinks, live entertainment by Easton Ashe, casino style games and FUN! This year’s event took place Saturday, May 2 at City Center of City North from 7:00-11:30 pm. Admission of $75 per person benefits the youth of Florence Crittenton. Gabriel's Angels

Gabriel's Angels is an organization started by Pam Gaber and her dog Gabriel. She began four years ago with only 140 supporters. Today's annual breakfast at the Scottsdale Hilton served 580 supporters including Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Mercury President Jay Perry. The organization works with 20 plus Valley shelters including the Sojourner Center to provide pet therapy for abused, neglected and at-risk children. The mission of Gabriel's Angels is to help nurture these children's ability to love and trust, thereby freeing them from the cycle of violence through the delivery of the pet therapy dogs.

Go Red For Women

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of American women -- and men. About 480,000 women die of cardiovascular disease annually. But heart disease is largely preventable. The American Heart Association's Go Red For Women campaign helps empower women with knowledge and tools so they can take positive action to reduce their risks of heart disease and stroke and protect their health. The annual Go Red Luncheon took place at the Phoenix Sheraton on Friday May 1. Channel 12 News' Lin Sue Cooney emceed the event.

Drive The Dream Gala

Drive The Dream Gala is an evening presented by Childhelp and Barrett-Jackson. Childhelp was founded in 1959 by Sara O'Meara and Yvonne Fedderson. It's an organization that helps abused and neglected children nationally and around the globe. Now going on its' 50th year, and celebrating 5 years in partnership with Barrett-Jackson, Childhelp continues to serve the community and receive incredible support. Many of the celebrity supporters spotted at the event included, Jane Seymour, Kathy Lee Gifford, Connie Stevens, John O'Hurley and Ricky Schroder. Other well known Arizona folk included Tara Hitchcock, Jerry Colangelo, Jan Brewer, and Sen. Jon Kyle. Proceeds raised from the evening of dinner, live auction and entertainment supports Childhelp children.

Girl's Night Out

Girl's Night Out, an Arizona Theatre Production event at the Herberger January 9, 2009 was a show stopper. The play, HAIR has become so popular, they've added eight additional shows. Maggie's Place Fire

In the early morning on New Year's Eve, there was a fire at a home for expectant mothers who had no home and no where to turn to. While the fire damage was contained to the the ceiling, the sprinkler system was activated which caused water damage throughout the whole house.

Metro Grand Opening

The first METRO light rail trains left their stations today, Dec. 27, 2008 marking a new era in public transportation in the Valley. It's been a project 12 years in the making. For the rest of 2008, the public can ride free. It was a party-like atmosphere at the many different rail stations which included music, food and entertainment. There was also a one to two hour wait to ride the lightrail, which did not deter the many people waiting.

"Community Day"

Dec. 27, 2008 marked the grand opening of the Phoenix Convention Center. Arizona residents celebrated the historic completion of the $600 million expansion of the center today with a ribbon cutting ceremony, food, singing and dancing and other entertainment that coincided with the grand opening of the light rail system. Both celebrations marked "Community Day" for downtown Phoenix. The nearly 900,000 square feet of convention space will position Phoenix as a premier destination for more than 80% of all conventions and place the Phoenix Convention Center among the top 20 largest convention centers in North America.

Let it Snow!

A big day for skiers today as Snowbowl officially opened for the season, and just down the road a bit, the sledding was at it's finest and off to a great opening day as well.At Wing Mountain, an organized snow play area with plowed and managed parking, hot beverages, sleds and other concessions, families from all around enjoyed a day in the snow. Activities include sledding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and playing in the snow. They even allow dogs! Phoenix Woman magazine was there to capture some of the fun. We hope you enjoy some of the scenic shots. To find Wing Mountain: From Interstate 40, follow Hwy 180 north 2.8 miles past Snowbowl Road to mile marker 226 (approximate), turn left onto Forest Service Road 222B. The exit is clearly marked as “Wing Mountain Snow Play Area.” Cost: $10.00 per vehicle (Flagstaff recieved a huge snowfall December 15 and 16 and expect more)

Alice Cooper

The 8th Annual Alice Cooper's Christmas Pudding took place December 13th at The Dodge Theatre. All proceeds support Solid Rock and Arizona's youth.This year’s line-up included:Bob Welch – Fleetwood Mac, Robby Krieger – The Doors Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, Whiskey Falls, F5, Les Stroud, Michael Nitro, ICON, Craig Gass, Marty Mitchell, Runaway Phoenix, Mike “Blackjack” Wilson, and 3TV's Brad Perry.

Holiday Train Park

The McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, located on Scottsdale Road and Indian Bend in the heart of Scottsdale is the most unique park of it's kind in the country. Take a ride on the Paradise and Pacific Railroad and antique carousel. Visit a variety of shops and museum or play in one of the spacious playgrounds, or just relax in the grass under a tree or in one of the park's picnic ramadas.Each year they deck the place out with Holiday lights and festivities for children and adults alike. Live music, trains, food, Santa and more. It's a home run for the kids!

Girls' Night Out

Girls' Night Out is an AZ Theatre Company three night event sponsored in part by Phoenix Woman magazine. The first night took place Nov. 21 at the Herberger Theatre. Guests experienced a fun night of cocktails, massages, paraffin waxes, toe readings, dessert and jewelry shopping before entering the one woman show entitled, "The Lady With All The Answers." The next Girl's Night Out will take place in 2009.

Saverio Launch The Ladies

Saverio, a custom clotherie on Market Street in DC Ranch opened it's doors with a grand opening extravaganza 3-day event. Nov. 14 consisted of a networking mixer coupled with a ribbon cutting, Nov. 15 was the "meet the maker" day and Nov. 16 was dedicated to the "Fresh Start Foundation", a local women's support center. The day was called "Launch the Ladies". Guests were asked to bring their retired business attire to benefit the women of Fresh Start. This Phoenix Woman sponsored event also named a Fresh Start winner to receive a custom outfit for her next interview.

Project C.U.R.E.

Project C.U.R.E. is a non-profit organization that takes "throw-away" or unused medical devices and supplies overseas to 3rd world countries. Thursday Nov. 13 the organization hosted a V.I.P. reception at the Barry Goldwater estate in Paradise Valley. Nov. 14 they hosted a fundraising luncheon at the Camelback Inn. One-thousand prominent valley business leaders helped raise $100,000 at the lunch which enables the organization to take 1.6million in supplies to Belize, the next recipient country. Phoenix Woman magazine editor, Jessica Parsons hosted a table of ten.

City North AZ Grand Opening

High Street at City North AZ opened in a carnival-like fashion. Music, camel rides, dancers and singers greeted hundreds of guests for opening weekend. High Street which is home to the new Pioneer store, Mojo Yogurt, White House/Black Market and much more is now open for business. The festivities went on through the weekend.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

The 10th Anniversary of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer was celebrated Saturday Nov. 8. It was also the day 10,000 Arizonans took to the street for the Making Strides 3 miles walk. The event raised nearly $300,000 as walkers and local companies raised money through petitions to sponsor their walking. This event put on by the American Cancer Society is the only one this organization puts on dedicated to breast cancer awareness and research. Some of the bigger sponsors included M&I Bank, Walmart, CVS CAremark and Board Biopsy Systems. Phoenix Woman also participated with a small team called, "Team Phoenix Woman."

Wine Auction

The First Press Fine Wine Auction is the premier celebration of rare and collectible wines in the southwest. This black-tie evening offered guests a five-course gourmet dinner paired with exceptional wines and a silent and live auction featuring unique vintages, wine travel packages and experiences provided by Far Niente, Rudd Winery, Kosta Browne Winery and ZD Wines. The event which fetched $500.00 per guest was sponsored by Molina Fine Jewelers, MidFirst Private Bank, Diversified Parterns, Phoenix Woman magazine, Highline Auto magazine and Desert Living magazine. Proceeds benefited Phoenix Public Radio stations KBAQ 89.5 FM, KJZZ 91.5 FM and Sun Sounds of Arizona.

Wine Tasting

The First Press Fine Wine Tasting&Auction is the premier celebration of rare and collectible wines in the Southwest. Some 100 wines were featured from around the globe including, Dos Cabazas Wineworks from Sonoita Arizona, Plumpjack Winery, Cade Winery, Kosta Browne and Darioush Winery. The event held at the Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale went from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and also featured competing chefs and celebrity judges including Brad Perry from 3TV and Kaley O'Kelly from Channel 15.

Women of Scottsdale celebrate 10 years today. The lunch and celebration was held at the Westin at Kierland. Women business leaders and owners attended the event along with Scottsdale Mayor Mary Manross who declared it "Women of Scottsdale Day."

At the Inspire Luncheon at the Orange Tree Golf Resort, award-winning reporter and journalist, Jana Boomersbach gave an inspiring and mesmerizing speech. She touched on her life, her successes and insight into the behind-the-scenes investigation of her two incredible books, Winnie Ruth Judd: The Trunk Murderess and Bones in the Desert.

Blankets for Babies

The Second Annual Blankets for Babies Charity Dinner was held Oct. 15 at Tom and Melissa Lehman's home. It was a wonderful evening of food, drinks and spending money for a good cause. The proceeds of the evening will support Blankets for Babies. Blankets for Babies is the brainchild of Lindsay Hughey, a young forward thinker who believes every child deserves a beautiful and warm blanket to cuddle with. She has traveled all over Arizona giving out luxurious handmade blankets to needy children, and will soon give out 5,000 blankets overseas.
